The Story So Far…

This spring now Debate This launched one of the nation’s largest and most innovative scholarship programs in history: an online reality show dedicated to our nation’s past. By the end of the summer, Now Debate This will have awarded over $250,000 of scholarship funds to 16 students across the country and will chronicle the competition in real-time on nowdebatethis.com for the public.

Over the course of this summer, 16 high school seniors will be chronicling their journey into our nation’s past. Their summer job is to share what they find out about our nation’s history with you, the viewer. They’ve created songs, poems, webisodes, and documentaries and there’s more to come. Everything on this site is user-created and you can check more out at confab.nowdebtethis.com. We’re currently in week 3 of this competition.

On July 25, the 16 students and a student reporter will travel across the country in search of the legacies of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. The students and our film crew will chronicle this experience – the ups and downs, the fights and friendships – for you the viewer.

At the end of the trip, Now Debate This will host an elimination debate between the students and award a $150,000 scholarship to one of the students. The rest will receive between $2,000 and $50,000.

Who would win your vote in 2008? George or Abe?
